Paneer Chilli




Ask an Indian what is one of their favorite cuisines and they might say Indo-Chinese, most of it originates from the border shared. Paneer chilli is fusion stir-fry dish with a bold, spicy, and tangy flavor. This makes for a great appetizer or main course meal...find out how to make this favorite Bombay street out below...

 

Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients (serves 4-5)

Paneer:

500 grams (or 1lb) paneer (cut in small cubes)

2 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp all purpose flour

1/2 cup water

1 tsp white pepper

1 tsp soya sauce

1 egg (optional)

Salt to taste

Gravy:

1 small onion (cut in cubes)

3-4 green chillis

1 green bell pepper (cut in cubes)

1 tsp white pepper

1 tsp soya sauce

1 tsp vinegar

1 tsp chilli-garlic sauce

1 tbsp ginger paste

3-4 garlic cloves (chopped)

1 tbsp oil

1 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp water

3-4 green onions finely chopped


How to make?

To make the paneer:

Step 1:

Cut paneer in small cubes and set aside.

Step 2:

Mix together cornstarch, all purpose flour, water, white pepper, soya sauce, egg (optional), and salt to create the marinade sauce.

Step 3:

Coat the paneer using the marinade.

Step 4:

Shallow, deep, or air-fry the paneer pieces.

To make the gravy sauce:

Step 1:

Heat oil in a wide sauce pan.

Step 2:

Cut green chillis into thin slivers. Chop ginger and garlic. Add these ingredients to the pan.

Step 3:

Fry chopped onions on medium heat till translucent.

Step 4:

As the onions are cooking, mix together soya sauce, vinegar, chili-garlic sauce, and ginger paste. Add it to the pan once the onions are cooked.

Step 5:

Mix cornstarch in water to create a semi-thick paste. Add this mixture to the pan and simmer for a 3-4 minutes as the paste becomes to thicken.

Step 6:

Add additional water if the mixture is too thick and cook it till it boils.

Step 7:

When you're ready to serve, add the fried paneer to the gravy, stirring well to ensure all the pieces have mixed well with the sauce.

Step 8:

Add the green peppers and green onions to the pan and simmer for 3-4 minutes.


Paneer chilli is ready to be devoured with your favorite kind of noodles or fried rice!
